Hello, Ruben, thanks for this interview. First of all can you tell us more about you?
Hmmmm….. That’s not easy, partly because I don’t even know, but I will try

At my company Im a digital marketing consultant at Path Interactive, a digital marketing agency in NY, and actively participate in running paid, organic and social media campaigns. Im constantly managing, meeting with clients to provide insights on how we can be ahead of the curve and be a market leader. I also am a lead on social media strategies for all of our accounts that include social campaigns. As an adjunct, I love teaching at New York University, where I teach several courses around Social Media, and co instruct an SEO course. And of course, I do speaking to keep my Klout score to a reasonable level, That does not leave much time for anything else, which would include creating videos, reading, and batting cages…. Not sure if that will translate, J And not as frequently as I would like, I blog at rubenquinones.com, and some others.

You recently visited our country and was on SMBR. What’re your impressions about the event and brazilian community?
I knew going in that there might be some characteristics from my Latin American roots (my parents came from the Dominican Republic). The people at SMBR were friendly, smart, and savvy. I was actually impressed with the social media knowledge base there, and am glad that I was able to contribute to a conference that possessed some great content. I was grateful for every single tweet, facebook friend, real connections that I developed there. My only regrets?, that I didn’t know more Portuguese, and that I did not participate in this thing that they call “Brazilian Funk”

You mentioned in your presentation about the huge brazilian growth on Facebook last month. We saw in the news that US had a drop, on the other hand. How do you see this scenario?
Typically growth grinds to a halt when facebook reaches about half of the population in that given country. Facebook has been leaning on growth from developing countries, and I have no doubt that China is a priority for them. As long as the negative trends in the in the impacted countries like the U.S., Canada and some others, do not continue, I don’t think its much of a concern for them. It does push them to be innovative and engage users who might be more passive about facebook and decided to leave altogether.

Facebook is adding more and more features to his world, for users and companies (places, deals, for example). What do you think about that? Can you imagine what’s Zuckerberg’s intention?
Besides money, there is no question that a leading tech company has to be on their toes when it comes to innovating and acquisition of up and coming ideas, businesses. Google has been doing it for most of the decade, and even with that, they missed out on capitalizing on the biggest opportunity of them all, the social web. At least at the level that facebook has penetrated the social web.

You talked about fan pages in SMBR. Can you give us some nice tips in order to make a simple but effective job inside them? We have a lot of readers in our blog and the main doubts are in fan pages arena
If you are in a commoditized industry, fan pages will only assist when it comes to your overall marketing strategies. The only time Ive seen it do well by itself is if you have a unique product or service. Also, having the right expectations is crucial. If you jump onto facebook with the intention to sell right away, its most likely not going to work. There is a difference between a google search looking for a product or service, and having a presence on facebook where the overall goal is to strengthen the relationship with your existing customers and start a relationship with potential customers. It also serves as a customer service portal for some businesses. Now this my change with the introduction of more direct marketing methods that will compliment a fan page like facebook places, deals and others. So if you have the right expectations and are complimenting your other digital properties, facebook pages can be a great asset to market your business in an innovative platform.

Engagement and exclusive content inside a fan page. Are they the keys to make good work on Facebook?
In my presentation I discussed the recipe for a successful fan page and would provide engagement on faceboo. That would include the 3 E’s of engagement…. Being educational, entertaining and exclusive. Educational, everyone loves to learn online. Entertaining because it is the primary function that users go onto facebook for, it is a “Social” network. And Exclusive: there should be a compelling offer to join your community outside of just being educational and entertaining. The thing is you can mix in educational and entertaining with being exclusive, it does not have to be a deal or promotion that you are running. Perhaps you have some compelling educational content, or an entertaining video that someone can watch if they like or join your community (would work well if you had an intro clip to the full version). Being creative and experimenting does not go away after setting up of a fan page, as you will always be working to come up with the right balance. Other thing to note is that you have to have the right balance of education, entertainment and exclusivity on your fan page. Realize that a Brazilian soccer team can get a way with a lot more status updates a day during the world cup then a business to business page that might rely on less posts and is more educational. You have to evaluate how “sociable” your brand is online and strike the right balance of the three. And its not just big brands that are successful, although its easier because they have the budget for a large facebook ad programs, I also included a case study I created for a small online store that sold beverages online. I still have it up on the fan page at http://facebook.com/pathinteractive

We constantly give suggestions of apps here. Can you contribute to our readers, giving some of apps that you really like and recommend?

Below are a few….

Here are two that have started aggregating social networks tied into your location….

I mentioned the Sonar app in Brazil and was actively using it, I interviewed the CEO here…. http://www.istrategyconference.com/blog/?category=Social-Media&title=Sonar-a-new-geo-location-app-for-2011&pid=556

Sonar is an app that integrates where you check into and people that are at the location who might have relevant connections, shared interests. It currently aggregates foursquare, twitter and facebook on the iPhone only for now.

If you want to stalk people, new app Banjo will do the trick, It will provide you with status updates from facebook and twitter currently, and places the updates on a nice map interface around your location.

For delivering and aggregating your news feed, my iPad and Android must have these two apps….

The Pulse app which has a nice user interface on my android, pulls in my google reader, facebook friend updates, and other news sources.

Flipboard has gotten a lot of attention as a social magazine for the iPad, but I prefer the Zite app which also pulls in my news feed and delivers news based on my likes and dislikes of the content.

And if you ever plan to travel, the free wifi finder in the App store is a good one, and will give you a detailed map with free wifi spots in your destination or current location.
Do you have any experience and tips over Facebook Ads?
Yes, it is best to totally forget what you may have picked up from google marketing since it’s a different approach altogether. Since facebook is a social network and in general is not a direct marketing platform, impacting users and gaining access to their news feed should be the objective. Ads appealing to the users interests and likes with a compelling offer to like or provide you with their information is key. Direct selling is not going to take you far, but some of the greatest returns on investments are from users who are part of your marketing base, even if they are earlier on in the buying process, eventually they will buy. Key to facebook ads is to be creative, experiment, rotate photos, and segment your audience by their likes and interest. Don’t just lump them into one campaign.

Google+ – Did you see that? People are talking as a Facebook rival. What do you think?
From what I can gather on my limited time on it, it seems like google’s best attempt at making a dent into facebook’s massive audience.

There are two key things that I like about it so far. The circles function seems user friendly and allows you to have relevant conversations with the friends that are most relevant to what you want to talk about. On facebook, reorganizing your lists would take a good amount of time, and something I have not tackled as of yet. I hesitate to share content on facebook because I realize my audience is pretty diverse. If I want to talk just to my new friends in Sao Paulo, it would be great if I can easily do that and just share content that is relevant to them. The other thing I noticed from google plus is that it seems to have a better collaboration with its other social potential products then its prior attempts. And lets not forget that google has a growing mobile market share with the Android operating system, which would allow a user to easily integrate their social apps like photos, updates, and other functions with google plus. I still don’t feel the ease of sharing photos, and content on facebook like I do if I was in front of a computer. There are other features like huddle which will integrate your text messages in a group function, similar to Groupme and Beluga which got bought out by facebook. The video chat function is pretty cool as well.

There is no doubt that facebook will keep an eye on this and will continuing to innovate on their side.

What did you think about facebook news (specially video calling) and about Zuckerberg not answering about Google+ comparison? Do you think that we’ll have a fight between networks?
The video chat deal with Skype was no surprise since we knew that they were working on it. In my opinion, it does not compare to google’s version. In my limited experience, the biggest differential is the ability to have up to 10 users on the video chat via Google’s version – Hangout as well as the appearance on the stream for other users. Facebook’s version simply looks like skype integrated with facebook contacts. Im sure that Facebook will address it sooner or later, but having competition from google is good overall, and will push both companies to be innovative in the space. The group chat feature was also cool, but was comparable to Google’s Huddle, which by the way is very user friendly on the Android.

Keep in mind that a lot of the features that are in Google plus were already existing, for example…..

Chat – Google Chat
Stream – Google Buzz
Hangout – Google Video Chat
Photos – Picassa
Profile – Public Profiles
Checkin – Google Latitude
Friend Suggestions – Gmail Contacts

There is no company that I can think of that can take on Facebook other than google

This is why Facebook should be concerned…..

Google has an enormous user database and usage in its google products including google search, google docs, gadgets, youtube, gmail, google voice, gtalk, google desktop, google latitude…. Just to name a few, J. Same goes for its reach to businesses and brands… google adwords, google analytics, Adsense, Ad mob, and so on.

Google’s platform reach – An already existing network in Orkut (only comes into play for Brazil and India), Google Chrome, Android operating system, to name a few.

Im sure I missed a lot, but I made my point. It will be interesting, and google has the right positioning to put up a fight. The only issue will be, although heavy social users like myself would switch, is there enough compelling reasons for a average facebook user to make a switch. Its happened before (Myspace), curious to see if it will happen again.

Ruben, thanks a lot to talk with us. It was really nice to talk with you in SMBR. Please give a message for our community.
My pleasure, there is an outside chance that I might be in Sao Paulo sooner than you think, J Im ironing out plans in another city of Brazil and Sao Paulo is my connecting destination, so perhaps we will see each other.

To the social media pioneers in Sao Paulo and the rest of Brazil, I take pride in a Latin American country having a global presence on the social web. Whether its trending globally on a hashtag, or becoming a giant in the number of facebook users, Brazil has huge potential and is doing some great things in this field already.

In the next few years the world will have its eyes on Brazil, especially with the world cup and the Olympics coming to town. There is no doubt that Brazil in this new media era will shine, and Im so glad to have caught a glimpse of the great things happening there before the rest of the world witnesses it.

Thanks for your time

Transcript:

Duration of Video: 95 min 56 sec.

Jaclyn Deans: All of these panelists are successful and distinguished individuals and they help you to grow your business. So we are going to start and thank you for coming out to the session Social Media important for your business. So I will pass them mike around and you get to ask all your Social Media questions. Alright so I am going to introduce our Panelist.

First our first panelist we are going to start with is Dana Humphery. Dana Humphery is the owner and Leader for marketing and PR consultant for YK PR.
So next we have I am going down the line I mean I am going to Ruben I am going to skip you Mardy for a second. We have Ruben Quinones is the director for Sales and Social Media marketing of Path Interactive and he is also known as an professor in NYU’s school of Continue and professional studies and for the marketing and public relations program. So he teaches examining Social Media networks for great value ends.

Ruben Quinones: It’s long time.

Jaclyn Deans: It’s such a long time I know and also teaches Search Engine optimization classes for the University. He has over 10 years of experience in online marketing, advertising and web development experience and he is a trainer and a certified Google advertising professional you have those it’s amazing and he also has a blog at Ruben Quinones.com where he discusses Social Media, Use blogging and internet marketing alright.

And then we have Mardy Sitzer we love Mardy ok we love everyone and we love Mardy. Mardy Sitzer is a president of Bomb Bio is in designing and marketing; she works closely with the clients to develop wide range of marketing strategies which includesimplementing Social Media campaigns and programs to help them to attract new business. Her company provides Web designing development, traditional winding and marketing support. And she has years of experience and recipient of National Business for women and winner of signature Social Media award and she is one of the best highest rated network success speaker. So this is our distinguished panel so let’s give them a round of applause.

Mardy Sitzer: Thank you.

Jaclyn Deans: Alright so we are going to jump into one of my first questions so everyone knows what social media is? Right. We are going to focus on Face book, Twitter, LinkedIn and a little bit on blogging. Ok. For many companies your problem wondering is Social media is good for my industry, is it good for my business and I am going to give this questions to the panel. Can any industry or any business use Social Media in their business? We got some broad questions to and we talk about questions and we can jump in Ruben wants to jump in go ahead Ruben.

Ruben Quinones: I am going to say yes because Social Media or Social web is and it is not going and promoting yourself but it is for listening. I can tell you the business I picked up or the step that I know about my clients because I was just listening. So I didn’t have the Social property over there I didn’t had my client represent that but can have a gauge to market just having my ear to grand stone whether it may be Twitter, LinkedIn or face book. Even if you don’t have a property social property on any of these networks you can still utilize to your advantage just by listening.

Mardy Sitzer: I like to add to that I think most of the times I refer to the Social Web or Social Media is the great leveler and what I mean by that is you don’t have to be a Fortune 5 or have deep pockets to really begin to call back space and voice of your own. So as Ruben was explaining it’s an amazing research tool. You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to researching on marketing your industry or researching temperament or trends. All that information is there and successful in most part it’s free.

Dana Humphery: I mean I think it’s the key Social Media is that it’s Social and it is just not about passing a message out, you know continuously making posts and it’s probably engaging people and having a conversation. I am using these different tools to do that. As a PR person my steps involve identifying who the target market is and what those people are reading, watching and listening to how they are getting their information. So if it’s a group of people that may be tend to be on Face book and that may be a great place for the client to engage in Social Media.

Jaclyn Deans: So what is the best way to start a Social Media campaign? Whenever your small business where do you begin because you have so many platforms. As before we can say that what is right for some industries? May be Twitter is better for some, may be Face book is better for some just like Dana said Certain things certain platform approach that are better than others depending on whatever industry you are in.

Mardy Sitzer: So If I can start with that I think it’s a mistake to make those kinds of generalizations and I think it’s also a mistake to go in the Social Media saying to start up with Face book because I am comfortable. You really need to go back to what Ruben is saying and really have to start our first listening. You can’t talk to someone if you don’t know where their views are you are not going to catch their eye balls if you don’t know what they are watching so you really want to start with understanding your target is and then research where these are engaged and more importantly can you look them know here right now. But you want to see what they are talking about because it is to re emphasize the point this is social, you are not going to go there and say wow! I have this really cool thing and I am amazing. What you are going to do is ask them and understand what interests you. What interests you? What are you focused on? What kind of information will be helpful to you and that’s how you are going to begin your campaign.

Ruben Quinones: The thing is you can’t know answers to these questions unless you know what your audiences want. You know probably People who develop a personal brand or may be looking for a job or develop their business in their brand as well. But it goes back to the basics where I mean to looking for a job or just try to work on my personal brand or have clients you can’t know what speaks to their audience, you can’t know the content they are working on, so if you can feed them that information it’s marketing one on one which is done traditionally. So if you pick up a magazine or news paper because of great content so why would you go and deviate away from that. What to have good content when it comes to Social media and that’s how you pick up an audience.

Jaclyn Deans: Alright. So the next question I have is I have started my Social Media campaign and I am doing it to promote my business, how do I know that I am getting return on investment for the time and energy spent on the Social Media campaign? How do I know this is working besides talking to people all day because you are Social Media people ok? But for the small business people who own a bakery and two for one cup cake deal but I mean other than that and she has cakes to bake. So how much time should she be dividing for that and how do she know that this is the valuable use of time?

Ruben Quinones: That is a great question I know that and I am sure you guys will ask that all the time. I get great case studies I can show you my office of brands I am the author there and small business and there brand. I can add my own success story I do work from 8 months not really known to and speaking about major concern and that is because I invested time and I didn’t really know when I started that I would end up quickly but I knew I am going to get something. So is there lot of time to work. Yes, I personally spend 16 hours a day some time for Social Media but that doesn’t mean like you have to. I think we does go back to we said before if you do listen and you are hearing much about your brand, your industry may be you should invest your time in Twitter or something like that. Although at the very least I invested time on just listening you can start up alerts and have to be on Twitter people don’t know that lot of consumptions too. People think oh twitter is young crap where you don’t know the larger number of graphics is I think 45 to 54 years old. Google is faster growing but it is number one in graphics. So when you think in that way its wow and that blows your mind isn’t it but it is not really. Most people say that it’s for kids and there is no money in it but it is not a good enough question.

Mardy Sitzer: But I think as a small business owner what you have to look at is that how many times you go to networking event or any kind of event and how many people do you meet and how do you follow on those clients and contacts, how many of those contacts turn into someone they know or how many times these contacts started already 3-6 months or a year or two year because you stay in touch with them. Social Media is little bit different if you have been at all successful grabbing everyone’s attention connecting or linking with them and you are providing a valuable content and sharing things that are interest you are going to be able to measure how often for example on Twitter does that share get re tweeted to other community. How many people actually do you get into conversation with? If you go to an event and if you don’t have conversation with anyone and you are a networking dead. If you are getting into Social Media and you don’t chat with anyone you are Social Media dead. So the conversation is that you have and is going to be bench mark or measure of how well you are doing. And the more real connections you make people think like it is something digital domain of electrons flying through you know out of space.

Ruben Quinones: Yes that’s what it is actually.

Mardy Sitzer: And order is appear ——. Well that can’t happen but it is the result of real and genuine connections that you make.

Dana Humphery: I think the important thing that you mentioned here is it’s not about may be having a million followers if none of them are participating and much more beneficial to your business to have 300 very active followers that are engaging in any information you are providing responding to it, adding to it, sharing it. There are many many tools out there you can use for all Social Media to be able to track from where you have started and where you are today from an activity perspective and I am sure you mentioned some other tools as well and that’s your benchmark to really say we started with this many followers and you are here today this is how active those people are and everyone know here I do specific Twitter promotions for my clients, I do specific Face book promotions for my clients where we put a coupon code on only on those mediums and we can track those sales specifically and is that the best way to track Social media probably not but it can if you can track where the coupon code is coming from and to associate that on your campaign.

Ruben Quinones: I like to add but I don’t know about the tracking but you didn’t talk about LinkedIn but I am going to tell you how good tool it is if you love it to do offline you guys are in this room collect a couple of cards when you leave and when you go back home and link up with them because that is the actual behavior. It took me a while to make part of my behavior. Quiet those numbers in LinkedIn I can show you my Black Berry leads came my way that I met someone from networking party and to know if I can free lance something. That was because they have decided we decided to connect with each other and I was virtually connected to them by the messages I was stopping so it is hard to depend on that but you know one message I can put it to five hundred people, I can have a cup of coffee with how many people are there. So that’s the power of leveraging it at the very least.

Jaclyn Deans: Ok Why do some other tools like does Mardy or Ruben you have an idea about some tools that we can use in Face book , Twitter, LinkedIn that help us make better connection.

Ruben Quinones: You are going to start up because I don’t want to tweets.

Dana Humphery: I like Socioomph.

Mardy Sitzer: Socioomph

Jaclyn Deans: what does it do can you tell us?

Dana Humphery: It is the way where you can track what is happening on twitter and can track multiple twitter accounts in one convenient location and you can have in depth statistics on who your followers are and what they are doing on twitter and manage ——twitter accounts ———.

Ruben Quinones: Socioomph.com.

Dana Humphery: Socioomph.

Ruben Quinones: oomph mass per hour at the end

Jaclyn Deans: So speaker on LinkedIn we touched on LinkedIn and twitter. How selective should be you while starting with your LinkedIn connections or getting people into LinkedIn? Because lots of people tell yeah sure you can give me your connection or you could be my friend in Face book. How selective should you be?

Dana Humphery: I will just briefly about LinkedIn there are lot of invitations I get on regular basis from some people are into open networking and if I don’t know the person I will not add them to LinkedIn and I don’t see any value on that. If I meet someone at networking event or I meet someone on a brief conversation or long conversation and I find you in LinkedIn I will invite you to connect so that we can stay in touch. I really use LinkedIn as my —– and if you are not on LinkedIn I probably invite you to be on there so that I can be able to follow up with you on your client information, your client email address, see if you got a new promotion or new job or may be laid off or that may be good to recommend you to someone. Ask you to connect to someone and that’s how I really use the network and I really don’t connect to anybody that I don’t know and haven’t met or haven’t had a conversation. But I guess it is a personal preference.

Jaclyn Deans: Mardy same thing

Mardy Sitzer: Probably I agree to add people or community that I really know.

Ruben Quinones: And I disagree. Because I do lot I possibly know one. So I don’t actively go into network and do something. I go into networking event but there is —– LinkedIn .I am an optimization guy where people can search for you by the industry on the tab. I have done people business that way so if you have somehow connected or you have second connection away from me and if you type in digital marketing you probably see me and how I optimize my profile. ——- how many connections you are away from them. Although I am in Social Media because I write a lot of pages from response I have to. As long as the person linking up with me doesn’t spam or whatever may be I am open like that and at the same time I am not actively trying to send out messages but I see the value in all the people and other people linking up with me.

Jaclyn Deans: So what you are saying is you will link up with people who have connection with you but random person who tries on to link you will not link with them?

Ruben Quinones: Possibly not the random I cannot know random. I have people who read my blog or saw the video that I did and who I to say no he am can be part of message stream. If you want to be in my message stream I can’t say no to that. I may act different at Face book but on LinkedIn I am not really exposing anything and you know there is nothing spam about the work experience I have so I am ok with that but at the same time —- but I also see a technical benefit in linking up with as many people as possible.

Jaclyn Deans: Ok wait hold on I have still questions to end ok write it down. If you have questions as we go around write it down.

Ruben Quinones: —————-

Jaclyn Deans: So LinkedIn has paid versus unpaid subscription. Do you welcome the paid subscription what is the benefit of that?

Dana Humphery: I don’t have a paid subscription. I have few friends – who have paid subscriptions and I think it really makes sense for them. Because they can see in depth about someone’s profile that they don’t necessarily have a connection with.

Mardy Sitzer: I had both and I gave up the paid portion of it as a I was doing research tool but I found that I can find whatever needed without paying so much of money. It’s not a lot of money but I think it does a better job in my pocket.

Ruben Quinones: I am pretty sure the company is running with paid but the benefit when you see Face book and LinkedIn it is little bit different because it has people click on Google and you know someone type —— this is more branding and networking. However, if you are creating demo graphics which is —— that is what LinkedIn is better we take a big budget to brand yourself. So I wouldn’t do it add on minimal budget I think it is lot of value for being out there in free.

Jaclyn Deans: ——-I think we were talking about advertising.

Ruben Quinones: I was referring to direct ads and you are referring about the paid portions. Only paid portions if you want to approach exactly what it is and sending them a message of being connected. Something has to do about paid versions and to see what it is about, I believe don’t use it.

Jaclyn Deans: Ok now whenever you search Google and put any of your names you will come up with all LinkedIn profiles usually at the top if you do it right. Whenever you are going to the LinkedIn page you are seeing the basic information or public information. Do you recommend to private or public?

Mardy Sitzer: I think you do that ———

Jaclyn Deans: Ok so it depends on that stuff.

Mardy Sitzer: Making your information private on LinkedIn is only for example I have a client who has an extraordinary industry and the last thing this woman needs is anyone knowing who her clients are what she is doing or what’s she is up to. It’s one of the New York industries —— swim so everything is private for her and is totally reasonable but her goal is not to get found she already has a name and her goal is to protect her kingdom ——-but if your goal is to found then the more you share the more your clients will find you.

Ruben Quinones: That’s great because you are from the same industry. I am an open book you can see in my LinkedIn profile. You can shut of all the connections portion too I actually don’t share the whole profile but if someone decides to contact —–so that’s the way you can go but the whole profile you can Google and go .

Jaclyn Deans: Also

Ruben Quinones: You need to customize settings. You go into LinkedIn to your profile Linkedin.com/in/your name. You get that and that is how you get found in Google. If you correctly spell of your name.

Jaclyn Deans: Exactly! Quick question about that what are the some of—- having Social Media campaign like getting to your connections and what is happening. So if you are on twitter and it so happens immediate whenever you put something on twitter and someone tweets about your company and they say something bad about it then you have to be quick to react. Just one example and what are the benefits of it and what are some of the pit falls of having the social media program?

Mardy Sitzer: For the first pit fall I warn everyone is if you are having few cocktails or you are in a bad mood step away from the computer because this is prominent it is prominent record even if you delete it is out somewhere. So you need to understand that everything you do online even make something with the contact stuff and work private. You are a complainer or you are bashing a company or your spelling is just tortuous or you are annoyed that’s how world is going to see you up forever if it is for a brief moment. Do not respond in anger. Do not respond when you are tipsy. Big problem.

Ruben Quinones: —-get home soon it is already———————

Dana Humphery: Yeah I mean read the Face book privacy if you are interested it is very long. No matter if privacy settings ——-. So we have to be very careful and

Ruben Quinones: When you talk about face book I can tell you the whole list. I have a company and the great thing is they ship products and customers complain the shipping costs too much with 40 pounds and it’s not their fault. So I had to deal with that but the great thing is I can address using the same tools that promoted them. So I will put up a video actually walk through the process and why did that cost them so much. So you can’t even know your baggage before you get into Social media. If this didn’t come up how I handle it. Last thing I handled is actually someone wrote about my blog in twitter because she felt that she was fed up of the media so you cut off your connection to your friends directly from the source because you felt that media. I hope I would have dictated a message if you have a direct connection. So there is the academy you are in, there is reputation management versus you know anything like your baggage you have to be comfortable with that putting ——- and you can’t know what it is and what might be there down the row.

Jaclyn Deans: So how do you respond just let me give you a example someone is tweeting and say your business is fabulous and Of course you have to re tweet them saying thank you or do something like that. What do you do when they tweet something like that?.

Mardy Sitzer: I prefer to that marketing. It is probably more with PR response and you probably have better response I am not a PR but I look at it as a marketing opportunity and I use the term Menz because to pick a character who is noble and gracious, sharing. When someone is critical or bashing you, you need to be normal and say thank you. And truly you need to learn to be humbled, and helpful it doesn’t mean that they are right but you need to go out ——————-. That’s not going to solve anything really engaging them, feeling their pain, being empathetic and you know what I can teach you to help them turn the corner they will not only be loyal but —–much.

Dana Humphery: True.

Ruben Quinones: I think that’s great you said. When you set up the social properties and to get involved and you too get a lot of fan base behind you when you need it to. If you don’t have that set up then you have to work on that so it is a good thing to involve rather than leader. Its people that being critical are being critical and I think there was study on negative review along positive review. It’s actually good to show negative reviews that actually show you are —— like everyone else I mean it is —– opinion on your product or service. So that’s ok that can be your first business that’s been hackled but it is about long term effects and the connections that you are making and the loyalist that you are creating for your brand and your company, your product or service.

Dana Humphery: It’s another communication tool so I mean lot of clients had very much negative feedback happened everyone used to ask someone used to post a complaint and again it’s an opportunity to show how you are handling it I mean everyone can see wow this is how it is like my personalized approach to my problem and so I think that is the best way to go about it is just the same way that the company will handle it if any customer called in or emailed in a few years ago now you can go to your Face book page and tell everyone that you are aware about the problem and you can tell everyone what you are going to do for them and how you are going to make it better and probably your customer may feel nice because you individual help them.

Ruben Quinones: It is something about Old spice. Old spice is one will respond to you all the time you pop up and talk in about. So that’s the power of leveraging your fan base when you are there. So you can actually have people around you and work for you defend you.

Jaclyn Deans: Alright so what are the three most important things did you do to run in all these networks? Twitter, your Face booking, your Linkedining ok. What are the other three most important things that you need to do to call for some audience to be engaged —– because you are not just have followers over night. What are three things you need to do that?

Mardy Sitzer: Well I think you can already have a contact base. You did walk-in here not knowing anyone so I think you will really like to start with the world that you know and you are on Face book, Twitter and LinkedIn ask them to connect with you and build with you up those connections from your client database and make sure that people that you meet today change cards and any connections on LinkedIn would ask if you want to link with me in LinkedIn or probably in Twitter just get it started and the say hi. What you think how was that? Good chapter how did that thing come in and have that conversation but start with whom you know, I think when people start to see that you are genuine, you are real, you interact you will begin to attract attention as long as keywords are being used. If you want to.

Ruben Quinones: It’s again getting to blogging but I have to agree I cannot tell you three things but —————- but yeah you have to start with networking they are already there. You just don’t even know peoples likes and interests but the hugest thing for my personal brand anyway was to leverage that I did offline and make sure that I connect to them online because I can—my backend part of community.

Dana Humphery: As far as the top three things I am not exactly sure but just as these two recommended it is really about taking the network into new area and explaining at that point. You can go through your email whatever email program you use and do some kind of expert —- and see out of those people how many are on Face book and start with them. Something that I do in LinkedIn is if I am constantly joining different groups and see maximum groups that you are in and that should be good way to start connecting to some people or always being in conversation with the groups you are interested in rather it is related to your business, to your personal doing there are groups of all different kinds from your high school, from your college may be the community you are there now. So join in those groups and see may be who is there in maybe I see them before.

Ruben Quinones: The great point I have to add to that remember going to the questions and interesting portion in LinkedIn and these people are asking about your service all the way long most likely the industry you are in. I can go and write now and ask questions other then marketing. I actually have done some video responses in some cases which makes real unique but they are already asking for questions and to show case your expertise and by the way I stumbled on Google that actually gets indexed by though — known to that community, anybody that sees your question you know sees you talking about make sure you know what you are talking about and it actually comes up in Google research. So that’s actually the first thing I do about and I wasn’t really anywhere.

Jaclyn Deans: So what are the one of the most popular question, how is this going to take to implement to start this program and for those who have not yet started the program for a campaign? I would say that you talked about market of course but how long is it going to take to implement this program? Ruben you said like in your baby Google you know you said in seven months you are as a professor after actually

Ruben Quinones: Actually four months.

Jaclyn Deans: Four months?

Ruben Quinones: But the thing is maybe I feel like I have not started yet still so much opportunity there , still so much opportunity in the field that I mean it’s amazing to me and I know other people ——- lot of work involved but I don’t know how you guys feel. I don’t feel like I have started but I don’t feel like whatever may be I don’t feel like I have a right I don’t know what you call that I started. Now I do lot of client campaigns and definitely do my personal branding but it’s a tough question how long does it takes to start so if I guess to do in the industry goes on you are trying to brand yourself, you are going to start personal or you are going to become a massive leader or you exactly in a company just want to manage reputation because things that I can teach people here and begin in a day. The people have a baggage can spend few weeks on so ———– a specific question depending on the business.

Mardy Sitzer: If you are doing this yourself, small company or so you will really want to take one property at a time at least a kind of build a way ———. Each property when I say Property I mean LinkedIn is a property, Face book is a property and get the ——and watch and look, listen and learn. So as Ruben was telling get up in the morning and I open my email and I go oh my GOD, I don’t know anything because everything just changed it’s such a fast evolving landscape that anyone says I am in Google I am an expert or in that they are doing 24X7 there is no way anyone can be. So you will need to get up on and figure out where you are comfortable, what works for you and where your audience are in terms of timing going to be a matter of how good is your content, how consistent are you in delivering it and how quick you are responding engage and how much time you have doing that?

Jaclyn Deans: Can you repeat that?

Mardy Sitzer: Probably not.

Jaclyn Deans: one, two, three and four.

Ruben Quinones: I think it is a good content this is

Mardy Sitzer: Content, consistency, response and the time you are doing that.

Ruben Quinones: The time ———- I do that every day.

Mardy Sitzer: You know I can say I am very focused person but I have come to ——–

Ruben Quinones: ——————-social

Mardy Sitzer: Probably I am taking care of business and I am responsible oh no. So it requires discipline built in responding on a timely fashion not getting lost.

Dana Humphery: I would say if you don’t have a LinkedIn profile right now then you should go home and create one if you have a resume you can input that into online LinkedIn profile it is not going to take you a long time. May be two hours at the most I mean it could take you even 10 mins depending on how quick you are. There is no just like how long it takes to start the business some people start it in a day and some people take 10 years. I mean it’s just like jumping in and diving in is the first step and I really think LinkedIn is specially you should be on there. You know Ruben is a optimization person all kind of keywords you can put in all sections profile and different things you can learn about your profile to make it better. But I would start with basic information if you don’t have a great picture you know you can may be make it happen in next couple of weeks. Set up a photo shoot with your friend for the business you want to start and get your LinkedIn profile so you can be found. Some Face book campaigns costs hundreds of thousands of dollars are huge and takes months to implement is that where you are at I don’t know. You could go home and you could create a Face book profile that wouldn’t take that long and wouldn’t be so expensive to began so it really depends on the way

Mardy Sitzer: But one of the cautions I will make here is that if you are going to launch a campaign in any one of these properties. Your profile has to be in ———-, the language should be clear and concise, your brand clearly stated and recognizable and it is important that there will be some credibility so if you get on to twitter and have two followers and your followers have thousand people and they go I may I am a marketing person. People are going to see that profile and are going to disconnect so if you really want to start up with spending some time on monitoring your audience and the as you know to that audience and their following and start the engagement I think you can probably campaign with some success.

Ruben Quinones: I spend a lot in LinkedIn put some promotions for my website. I have a personal website wherein I put few videos together, I put at least three —– but there is few on there Rubenquinones.com and you click on LinkedIn tips there are three you tube videos that popup and actually you can go through few tips that will help you to use your profile. ——– get back to the session but

Mardy Sitzer: ——-how long you have been that?

Ruben Quinones: Oh no that’s another one. ——- I used to do which I don’t do anymore. I do have a channel for my company it is Facebook.com/path interactive where you can find many clips anything about internet marketing, you can email me and will definitely discuss in future episodes.

Jaclyn Deans: So I want to talk about Face book because we just talked about it. So I am into small business and want to use Face book for my small business chain and I know we can make a like page or a fan page. But should I do adds for my fan page, what do I do? How do you get begin? How do you get liked? What you need to do?

Ruben Quinones: You need to be like a bow

Jaclyn Deans: Thank you, that’s great so we need to know.

Ruben Quinones: So it’s interesting I was doing a session and went to —- conference and I was preparing it for months and it was totally changed and I have to re do my total presentation. But you know Face book PPC is still more about branding strategy because people go on there and hang up. You know you go to Google and start your business and they type in. You don’t have to go to face book to make a transaction it’s just not the area. But it is a good way to be fundamental to be like a bow is some of the reasons people like is you know they trust you, your good source for industry and the same thing if you reflect online I mean —– what I am trying to do for my client and we get created and that pushes —— if anything is like pages where we really think that —–like everyone else —————-.

Jaclyn Deans: So the question is you touched although

Ruben Quinones: I answered your question

Jaclyn Deans: Be like a bow what you said and I am ok with that. My next question is just like you said LinkedIn is more for business connections and finding jobs. You said Face book is more for branding.

Ruben Quinones: The like page is different from your personal profile. I still think that your audience is if there are lot of people have lot of colleagues and you know messaging them to join on Face book. So you must almost figure out the strategy, Like page is strictly about your brand and your business that’s it. But then you know —————- you know where I can have the Social media guys so that I can have to be open to my Face book profile so that I can deal with that in certain way. So that’s almost the same the marketing profile as well. It depends on you I mean you may use strictly have that for your friends but I think it could be a good marketing strategy if you want to mind you need to have that virtual cup of coffee because again I can have ten cup of coffees in one day but immediately go into my network it is good as I placed a cup of coffee ———— but I am ready for ———-. But I am sure that ———- you know I give ———–

Mardy Sitzer: It’s a good networking tool — one of my clients called me other night and said do you know this person and I said the name is familiar in LinkedIn and the person didn’t there in LinkedIn this can’t be and right down in two seconds and turned out that she was connected to someone I know I was able to —– and say hey can you make a note and actually tell me about this person. So Face book can also be a networking tool and not just a branding tool. It’s more social environment I think ——campaigns on the like page or if you can get create a value, think about what people value about may it ‘s like a book —-or you can run sweet you can be careful about that but there are games you can play and share. As your client has literally made 185000 connections worldwide playing a game. So he has got game partners all over the world interesting and is able to connecting worldwide when he travel. So it depends on ———– the end of the day you go home tonight and managing a world with no boundaries, no limitations and no ——. What you want to do? One of these Social platforms will help you get there.

Dana Humphery: I guess there is a mechanics behind it. The way that Face book works is that you to have a profile page in order to able to create a business profile or fan page. So I do think that is the way to go to like —— fan page versus having your business page. It’s on profile but yes it is much more social space we have to connect—– that’s going to be tracy you want to trace your business or you can keep touch of your friends. I have a client —– and restaurant who targets 25 to 30 Euros in a specific —– and Face book adds on that and having a Face book page that attracts audience for networking events and —-different things on there. It really depends on your —-.

Ruben Quinones: ———————– alright I think that is definitely good luck. I think it’s time sense review you are going to make a decision so if you can market interests and likes on Face book and that’s what Google search is concerned about. Theythink someone types keyword there and they are probably looking for whatever and in Face book they can’t know who their likes, there interests are so it gives that information. So take up ———– working on the ———advertise to because they can’t know there interests are I like this in the beginning of that. You can ————.

Mardy Sitzer: You should be scared, you should be very careful.

Jaclyn Deans: The question on that I like to have to introduce. Ok If you want to if don’t have a time and you have little bit of time —– a lot of people are hired –Social Media, —person bloggers to do their Social Media campaigns for them. They hire someone into blog for them, someone to tweet for them they have someone to do out of that. You may have something better I know Google I know you really look like don’t do that.

Ruben Quinones: I liked you.

Jaclyn Deans: So I am asking is it sensible for you to do that for your business or should do it for yourself. No matter what your business is large or most people business is expect there may be crazy large but for small business owner start putting out. But they also have money to pay someone. Do you pay someone or you do it yourself?

Mardy Sitzer: How many people here have 5 employees or more? Ok. So I think that is pretty much sets the time there is little bit difference between a small versus big company. In the beginning it is probably practical to hire or work with someone who can coach you through the process hope you develop a ———- learn you about the pages, teaches you ins and outs and show you the tools with end objective being as your company grows and you are hire people and to delegate some of it. The caution is where you can probably do this on your own. It just takes more time depending on how fast you are going to do but Social media is social so the more you find out the less genuine it is. If you are going to have someone else tweeting you should make sure you are involved with someone or your voice sound. Same thing for blogging if I have separate style – which is about something. I hire a blogger to write about my company or clients they need like sound like me. I have a query he can speak and read something connecting ——. So you want to make sure that your personality and your stamp and your smell, your accent, your style in their but it is not wrong to have someone hoping you do it. You will be able to figure out how much you want —— versus how much you can do yourself. But it is not something you can delegate or mock out —–you need to be watching and listening , you need to be respond immediately something that is not going ———-. It is very different kind of experience then having a secretary or administrator type a letter and edit for you or may be someone doing it in books and you look it once in a month this is real life on time and it is about you and your voice so just be careful.

Ruben Quinones: So —————they tweet and blog for big brands I heard this before. So I mean I come from a shop we do blogging for clients or supplement blogging ——and how is it doing. But again at the very least expenses situation we can as well. If your expenses is an issue or your time is an issue again you have to be on twitter to listen tweets.com it’s like Google alerts in twitter if you are going to Google alerts is sign up for that as well so up to that as well. —————–everything for you. You can go to blogpost.com and type in any keywords to see that who is blogging about may be your brand or industry.

Jaclyn Deans: Hold on. Yes go ahead.

Ruben Quinones: social mentioned the thing is all those choose they don’t know to get the trackur .com is a pretty good tool. If you want to get a quick snapshot ——all these tools gather everything and make easy–.but using ——- is pretty cool — Gogo but tweets–.com you can just email like tweets keywords you can actually type in your company name or your industry if you are a graphic qualifier you can just do business ——— so you are realistic —– you — who mentions appointments——you know who knows to lead may be I don’t know but you should get email —then prompt you investigate little further or even get involved and make it —–.

Jaclyn Deans: Quick question blog you have

Ruben Quinones: Blogpost.com is good for and Google is good too is universal to —of Google. You know how search results on right hand side you can see image view so and so. You can go way and adjust to do search on blogs you get a whole total set of results as you post regular search. On the left hand side you can segregate images, video, blogs, news —- if I want a blog I type in the topic by going to the universal search you know then that’s another episode.

Mardy Sitzer: By the way he is wondering why you have to do all of those is one of the side benefits is to do optimization . Search engine is paying lot of options —– for real time so if you are tweeting as long it is a credible tweeting or credible tweeter not just because you are tweeting you come up in searches they does know —- often to the search networks.

Ruben Quinones: This is why you need to search a Face book page they are linked to all—- in your website is all doing giving them link—-. So they add static updates and they –Yahoo now. They will actually aggregate Face book result at a time and so actually link back to your site. So it goes back to pumping your contact so it involves lot of work but at least you know where you are getting into. –setting up a profile and digging up ———— but this way you can just begin lesson.

Jaclyn Deans: So ————— constantly we know that-of marketing better. You have a marketing budget should be it depends on the people there and really how much of your marketing should be social media, should be you know traditional way of marketing? Is should you not completely shift but of Social media now.

Mardy Sitzer: There is a movement to go back to —- but email still is —-. Marketing is a broad very broad spectrum and is going to depends on individual audience for the kind of business you are into. Are you local or you are regional or you are national or international and what your industry. So there is 2% ———-

Ruben Quinones: Actually it is .

Mardy Sitzer: I always miss that send me that link so your marketing budget both in dollars and time ————- should be a percentage of ——— existing and projected growth, so as your marketing goes your budgeting goes up.

Ruben Quinones: From a big business brand perspective people from you know social, Video on the web, TV advertisements but when you look at campaign like Old spice you know you get that on You tube all they did was leverage- they did online we are already a brand online————————– tells you that you know traditional way is not necessarily or may be allocated and the members show your lot of money is going to Search and going to search in Social media in next 5 years ————- and lot of brands ——— you got Face book.com/—-they will give you a reason all these are realistic there is a video in my website where I talked with Cornell in face book and I asked them why? He actually responded they actually say but I was not talking with them ————————–specific ——-. But there are lot of companies I don’t know why I don’t know tell me why I should like them and it is just easy saying we are going to provide you with best resources———— and give you green energy tips and save money on your bill ———didn’t say to begin with how would I know so there is a lot of ———–lot of ways you do back in online but even the big million dollar campaigns are I don’t know.

Mardy Sitzer: The tips that used to be is that you need to have 3 to 5- touches before there is trigger ———–and believe that it’s up to 9 now. So understand that someone wants to see your brand logos something 9 times before they pop up. So when you think about marketing and what you are going to spend your time and money and you are going to know in my page 9 times before I go you need to implement to build mediums and they support one another. So your emails should have Face book, Twitter, LinkedIn , blog links you have your twitter, Face book like tweet me, face me –if you do a print add a magazine join us in face book and don’t forget to tell why and that’s important because there is nothing more in knowing them following me in twitter, join me on face book and get live.

Ruben Quinones: So you are on twitter and your world

Mardy Sitzer: So let them know what you are doing there now. You know join me on twitter having fun —-whatever you are I give coupons to my —–on Face book or twitter and people know the people value of knowing you.

Ruben Quinones: So you can go ———

Jaclyn Deans: It’s good all these people add value and people come way and shoe how you are providing value to them rather should be following you, tweeting you, facing you ———

Dana Humphery: –some take up to 7 touches and some marketing touches 12 but as far as numbers are but it depends on what you are trying to reach. Oh that too having everything linking everything not everybody is on face book, not everyone is on twitter, not everyone is reading your blog but someone is reading your blog makes a link of that blog to their husband friend whoever calling and they are on twitter and Face book and now they will follow you. So that’s very important to keep on going because not all your audience are going to be in every space. Some people are in entire Face book, entire Twitter or they are only on Four square if it is really depending on what they preferring to use, what they I phone support, what their Smart phone support or what’s easier for them to use.

Ruben Quinones: Don’t mind me I am going to check in.

Jaclyn Deans: My final question before we open all of you guys to ask questions. So what was the hardest – participating in Social media and what represented the big —- curve and how did you overcome that?

Dana Humphery: I am still learning.

Mardy Sitzer: I have to say that like every morning as soon as I get up I subscribe to all the blogs and –tweets and news out there and every morning I am reminded —–. Keeping up with it is a part of my job I don’t think that as a regular user. The hardest thing is to not get ———— and not intimidated and in fact I write about it it is not technology guys we think all this is complicated and this is technology. This is a lady can do you guys can do. It is really just if you can just type and read you can think social, you can engage and you can do it. So don’t get over whelmed or over impressed with anything. Trust and do it.

Ruben Quinones: That is great! ———- and it may be not so easy as I thought. I mean again I shifted to pay per click to ——–get involved. I see Search Engine optimization in social and it is the same to make but if your personal brand how people view you do in business world is important to you that was good enough for me to at least developing and take care of my own personal brand. Because I —- already mentioning about me how can I improve on that. It is not about ———believe actually I am humble see me at home but it is about hey I take my business and I care about my customers and I would want to know what is my perception about myself. So maybe this is something I can work with or maybe it is going to take me to another level of but I have to agree, I wake up every morning and I don’t have time to read all the blogs and I have to write a blog today. So I need to but I do at least already mentioned in Social networks and I used to say another opportunity either for me to make connection or me to have that virtual cup of coffee.

Jaclyn Deans: Thank you for our Panelist thank you for everyone. I am in a open up session questions and also before open up session questions you all have packets I want you to on last page of your packets you have evaluation so I want you all to just so I want you all to write your valuation how you feel about the program. Please do we do use the evaluations to make our programs better and so yes you can take rest of the packet but you have to give me the evaluation that’s important. Questions here is a question we go.

Ruben Quinones: By the way question is a part of evaluation I just need to know before if I get into it.

Audience Member: If you can provide us you are going to get good mark.

Ruben Quinones: Carry on I get evaluated by me so not fresh for me.

Audience Member: Alright so I got a email from somebody whom I don’t know who found our website and wanted information from me. So I called them back and emailed them back and I never heard back from them. Actually —business and want to figure out who they are from LinkedIn. I searched them out seem like they could be only person however, I don’t know them although some of my connections know some of their connections so I am connected through —– . Is there a way to go through? How do you get your connections to find out who their connections are who knows this person? It is———————-.

Ruben Quinones: So you are trying to find out you are trying to figure out that person is connected to what your connections are?

Audience Member: No I put his name in to LinkedIn.

Ruben Quinones: In search results right?

Audience Member: On my page it said that he is connected to me through one of my connections who knows one of his connections.

Ruben Quinones: Ok.

Mardy Sitzer: Is it a third degree or fourth degree?

Audience Member: It is third degree, so how the way I get live human being I can speak who knows him.

Ruben Quinones: On LinkedIn or

Audience Member: —-to find out whom my connections are —–and know his connections.

Ruben Quinones: Oh ok. I should actually tell you while you go in —- that you connected in this way. But if it is third degree————

Audience Member: No it doesn’t it says is the ten people whom I know they know one of his connections but they are all —————-. You ——-LinkedIn connections and ask them to search in LinkedIn and see whom they know ———I have paid subscription any way.

Ruben Quinones: You have paid subscription so you can send them a direct message I think you are

Audience Member: I have already done that

Ruben Quinones: Alright on LinkedIn.

Audience Member: No I called him and left him an email

Jaclyn Deans: I will —– why do you want to talk to this man when you are already connected to him and try to find out and email him?

Audience Member: He called me I responded and he has not called me back ———-source of huge amount of business. He proactively approached ———– Somebody else I don’t want to get into mix.

Jaclyn Deans: ——–

Ruben Quinones: Email me that I will pick it up. Just ——–

Audience Member: You have to give me manual ——–

Ruben Quinones: Yes you have to do it manual that’s right. Privacy settings being too private and LinkedIn is little better than that of Face book it’s a kind of like you can’t

Audience Member: —————–

Dana Humphery: You cancel them and attract if you have a mail id if you have his phone and email you have all the information need it’s kind of like

Audience Member: ——————

Ruben Quinones: Ask that to ten people if he is that valuable to you then I would assist.—–

Jaclyn Deans: Ten people yeah

Dana Humphery: It is fourth degree connection, it’s I get asked all the time on LinkedIn people see that I am somehow connected to some one — it’s really not going to be that helpful. It is like covering that you two have —–or like our neighbors but they don’t know each other I mean it’s really not that helpful —–connection —- you or if you are connected to someone and the person is connected to other person you don’t know. If it is really beyond that then how helpful it is going to———. Even if you can get to them they are not going to recommend you and they don’t know you.

Audience Member: ————–

Ruben Quinones: —-she has 900 contacts; I have 500 so it is ———emails.

Jaclyn Deans: Question about I will come to you and I will come to you then will come to you yeah.

Audience Member: There was enough discussion about LinkedIn which is more for individual I guess branding in ———-. What if you are more interested in branding your business? I guess you guys might not having business pages on Face book but you have to do more of individual pages but I am not necessarily looking to make my business on my own personal brand. I don’t want it to be about me I want it to be about my business.

Jaclyn Deans: ————

Audience Member: —————

Jaclyn Deans: ——– on Face book page or on Fan page you can do that. So actually we are promoting.

Audience Member: ——————-

Ruben Quinones: Fan page is alike is a issue they change all the week.

Jaclyn Deans: It’s the Face book where you do all the changes

Audience Member: Hi I am Susan actually I am chief marketing officer for ——.com we are social networking website for groups right now and in few months time we are going to be for communities too. Making basically a high hyper loco Social networking website and consultants in marketing are you excited about that? Hyper loco websites and hyper loco contents driven to the social marketing world and that I can do for your small business client or —— this is how I need to build the community on Face book in geographic area.

Mardy Sitzer: One of the —- is that it is got in so loud, so noisy, too crowded out there that which you are talking about is the way in future.

Audience Member: Oh that’s good.

Ruben Quinones: So hyper loco is location based services hyper loco right. Hyper loco is amazing to meto get picked up in up time in hand because someone happen to be there wants to know about blogs or talking about Hyper loco whatever may be. You will be able to do that by just going someone ———at this point. It will be interesting —–good to see I haven’t heard about it but I have heard about ———- and it’s very interesting and I see the marketing potential too we just have been here for location based services.

Audience Member: I will take one.

Jaclyn Deans: I want to say Wibo we are plug out too. We talk about this in Wibo class in which you have to say name and name of business before you start talking. So you guys are promoting your business. So I will like that thank you alright. Hold on.

Audience Member: Go ahead. Hi my name is ——– marketing in Self names and one area I am specialized in marketing research and ——- comments you said – go to marketing pages to get marketing ———-. I was curious where do you go and what are the social networks you go to and where do you go to get that research?

Mardy Sitzer: Well it depends on what I am researching, what I am looking for, Who are or who am I looking for or what – you do some shopping and sometimes I am looking for platforms for my clients to join, to deliver their content on standard the LinkedIn etc. More likely I use all of them for key word research or content research so that when I sit with client and develop a strategy I know exactly what we are going to talk to, I know exactly what I am going to talk about and then within 6 months into it we will revise it.

Audience Member: Yes. – ok thank you.

Mardy Sitzer: It is also great to find out what your competitors are doing. Competitive analysis.

Dana Humphery: I think I look into the Face book info and right there everything you need is —–of company, the websites, — there name may not be there in there website so that is what I request research is very much for contact reason.

Audience Member: Target on graphics do you ever use it—keyword that you are looking to target .

Ruben Quinones: You can go through —to have a like page and you can create a like page you might do later on and you can actually run through two so that you were about to advertise that will actually show your likes and interests this is like how many people in this location. They like your likes and interests, they like – whatever and they show probably up in New York area they may probably show the potential market. Let’s just on Face book and you can get everything else. So I will give you some——

Audience Member: Thank you very much.

Audience Member: I am —–Smith and my company is ——and it is transmission of organs organization healthy events for adults. The Google alert and tweets and what was the other ones because I was thinking for my business good and sometimes I find people are writing about me and my business and it is good to track back and sometimes it is refereeing and saying good things for me and I keep that as testimonials so what is the other ones is it like the blog one or.

Ruben Quinones: Blog posts if you want to send—-

Audience Member: Blog right

Ruben Quinones: Blog post it is like wall posts. Post back link watch if you want to see people linking to your competitors you want to see if you want to see who is linking to your competitors websites.

Mardy Sitzer: Just back link if you want to see who is tweeting or linking your page or content.

Ruben Quinones: If you want to bypass twitter – you can go to search..Twitter.com you don’t have a handle and you just do a couple of key terms it will come up, tracker which is trackur you have a free version which has a great information which you can export into excel. You can actually put a center — -. You can actually export and move on your business pretty well.

Mardy Sitzer: Social mention

Ruben Quinones: Social mention

Audience Member: Spell trackur again please

Ruben Quinones: Ur instead of er at the end.

Dana Humphery: I am just

Ruben Quinones: Social mention

Dana Humphery: We will be quick back on to question if you don’t have Google —- it is really really helpful it is always twitter you can use and you can get into analysis browsers. If —-all this information while you are connecting it —–is definitely someone should have and a tip for that is to put your business name or your personal name in quotations or if you are trying to get some information may be dancing in New York in general may be you see what other people are doing you can get that and focus on what people are saying about you put it in quotes and so many emails today where Google finding on your topic you probably put dancing there you will really get lot of information company.

Ruben Quinones: Company in quotations.

Audience Member: Key word —————

Audience Member: Hi my name is Vendi McKenzie I have a company called in the blink of an eye. Blink of an eye is a company where we provide actress for films and I also called and I also teach a workshop called —- in the blink of an eye most people Google my name Vendi McKenzie and information pops up on me but on Face book when they punch in my name Vendi McKenzie a lot of Vendi McKenzie pop up so how do I get my information pop up first.

Dana Humphery: I have that problem there are times lot of Dana Humphreys are found there.

Ruben Quinones: You can hope that the actual name facebook.com/URL name or user name sorry. Facebook.com/username if any name is available you can take it. I have facebook.com/rubenquinones I reserved that same thing with like pages you can reserve that so that’s the what are the results you I will ask —-

Dana Humphery: And you can do the same on LinkedIn

Mardy Sitzer: No but there is difference in other words if you have reserved your URL with the domain name with your name. So for example if your face book link might read facebook.com/——/ 7930?/

Ruben Quinones: What is the wrong with that?

Mardy Sitzer: Rather than facebook.com/—

Dana Humphery: It will be found in face book that will be a good tip

Jaclyn Deans: So it would be facebook.com/username Vendi McKenzie instead of rather than

Ruben Quinones: Rather than slash I am saying use your name is what you are going to reserve it

Audience Member: Is it really important to have your picture on your LinkedIn page and what about

Ruben Quinones: It shows that you are in the community

Jaclyn Deans: That was a easy question

Ruben Quinones: I mean picture of you and your dog LinkedIn.

Dana Humphery: Face book

Mardy Sitzer: In Face book I put picture of my dog and couple of weeks later just to see what happened it is my personal page not my business page. In LinkedIn it is professional networking environment where you are projecting you like a dog or you know how you look like in 1962 is you today

Ruben Quinones: It’s real ——

Dana Humphery: There is also a case where you know we have that it is common name depending on how common your name is and you go on LinkedIn and search for you there is no picture how can you be really sure that it’s really you. You know there may be 5 names and you are looking person briefly.

Ruben Quinones: It is very common.

Dana Humphery: What if you have connected to someone with phone conversation or with direct virtual conversation. If you have phone conversation and you go to have a cup of coffee with them you don’t know how they look like, meeting someone it could be you don’t know who they are you can look in LinkedIn and go and meet them.

Mardy Sitzer:

Ruben Quinones: The thing on Linkedin what you really talking to stalkers.

Audience Member: I mean

Ruben Quinones: You think about it

Dana Humphery: What if you are professional — on your cellphone. If the world can see that then you need a different handset.

Ruben Quinones: You have the permanent number on LinkedIn or you are in Face book

Mardy Sitzer: Yeah my address does not appear anywhere. Do you want to protect your privacy but it is important in professional environment you put on a professional face. If you about LinkedIn is about you but there is a opportunity to have a business page on Linkedin where you have to keep your logo but Linkedin is professional about you I want to do business with you because you have a particular value with that you have connected.

Jaclyn Deans: Any other questions oh lots of questions ok over view 2 secs.

Audience Member: Hi I am Jerk coming from Medline designs when I come to things like Face book and Linkedin think that company is your company and you try to control everything you have in content but once you have adding queries where to draw the line in terms of having control on your employees because if they are linked to Linkedin through the company name or through face book how can you really control you employees actions and where do you draw line and say don’t connect

Dana Humphery: Social Media policy Put together Social Media policy where they can be in face book and public to your profile and connect to your business but you should have policy for that and which include dos and don’ts

Mardy Sitzer: Actually even if they are out of the company and you are going to have them and they need to study the Social Media policy for all employee because and I am sure you can give them news article stories of — she got fired on her own face book page complaining about a customer on work who was a chief director. She got fired because people knew that she worked in particular restaurant and she was not representing there company well even though she wasn’t authorized to communicate on behalf of the company and the virtual act that she did made her liable in subject to be fired just like you have a employee policy or co policy or sector policy you need to have social media policy.

Audience Member: Yeah thanks

Ruben Quinones: I would agree and this is powerful on the other end my company is benefited for my personal branding you have peace because people do business sometime and people not do because of their company but what they have got to do so understand that aspect as well.

Jaclyn Deans: I will get to him write it down.

Audience Member: Better be some of the basic Social Media policies if you can recommend it to us.

Mardy Sitzer: One of the things I would do is get on to Google and search Social Media policy there are lot of companies that have really great policies and I think they provide preferable information so that you can glean Dell has an excellent one, south west has an amazing one. The best one that I have ever read is really true to their mission is Apple’s.

Ruben Quinones: But they have a encouraging paid participation too.

Audience Member: I don’t want to ask a question because I read news in face book and how do you separate and how do you go through face book and cover all the personal stuff that is where we are supposed to be. Do you see face book is stringing? I see its advertising people putting advertising what you see the face book becoming?

Dana Humphery: What do you think joining us? Not personal I guess.

Audience Member: Excuse me.

Dana Humphery: What are you trying to do in face book is personal.

Audience Member: No we are talking about promoting a business in face book and I see there is a clash between business and personal. Linkedin is a business but face book is mixed I don’t know what it is anymore its strange.

Ruben Quinones: But that’s an advertisement did that way but that is the beauty of it too. I remember I went to —— and it’s the stream that I took my client to —- . So its ok your human over there you see pictures of me with good time with my family. It is not that you get drunk and —– that’s another thing I don’t know. So there is lot of personal stuff there but it strengthens my business as well I use that as advantage, so don’t shy to say your personal stuff in a good way.

Mardy Sitzer: You can have control on what strengthens you —– you can better there laugh applications showing that in other words well no the thing is that you should know yourself the need to get into face book and read how to use it, look at some videos or look at someone sit down with you and show you. You can actually have complete control I have people connected to which I don’t what there chatters showing up in my stream there are little too who are lets say radical for one mother will have a heart attack ok so I can mute him and still can connect and chat with him I have to ————for mom.

Audience Member: When do you give time on face book?

Mardy Sitzer: I give all time.

Ruben Quinones: It is good to make a point is that if your business is doing so good they you have to promote someone else so which happens every time. They will never know that I have turned them off so keep that in mind ——-.

Mardy Sitzer: You are a guest and should behave like one.

Jaclyn Deans: Anyone who wants to ask questions ok one, two. Hold on for just a second. Thanks

Audience Member: My name is —is sea.com so I have a question for you regarding campaigns because I think most people really want to do while promoting their business on social media sites but just connecting to people and conversations with them this is one of things occur. In your experience what type of campaigns you have seen the social networking sites have been truly tremendous and that have been successful.

Mardy Sitzer: It’s really spice probably —isn’t her hunk. Hunk video.

Audience Member: I am sorry so it is just promoting video on social media sites and having interaction

Mardy Sitzer: That’s important and the actual content.

Audience Member: Right.

Dana Humphery: People actually like watching video and people likes making videos

Ruben Quinones: I know a client who started their brand you can Google it spice videos pop up on you tube and we made to connect we made beverages sexy to connect online where we have 600 fans where none other bar have so many friends or family and it is still we have some good comments on you tube and there are case studies which actually I am going to use in upcoming conferences for small business where no brand and ——–spice when they came on and they hit it the social media.

Jaclyn Deans: Actually there is one two because you were waiting for — ok go ahead.

Audience Member: Just a quick comment not everybody you meet is going to like you.

Ruben Quinones: Oh no no did you like me?

Audience Member: I liked you but not everybody you meet is not going to be your customer but the idea is to meet as many people as possible and hopefully very less percentage of people like you and connect you.

Mardy Sitzer: yeah can have anything in any business. Thank you.

Jaclyn Deans: Hold on final question.

Audience Member: Hi my name is —–I don’t have a business named yet I am a business consultant right now MTV is —–. So one thing I want to ask was how did you guys get a free information especially people say and if you look at twitter now lot of people have fax today or fax.com, how profitable do you think that whether people should do that and whether when can they start? Thank you.

Mardy Sitzer: Can anybody

Ruben Quinones: Yeah I showed you one blog ——everybody try to pick my brand I like free lancers but you know don’t have time to do that. I am trying experimenting I started doing this video and thought people will send an email and will discuss in coming episodes and it can be shared by friends so I am trying to capitalize on picking my brand and putting it on you tube, putting it on face book and fan page if you think the content is great and you share it gives me a lot. I took a tough question basically I am a nice guy but I can’t take care of people it is tuff for me if someone writes and ——–looking for a job I have a heart so I am putting it right —–. But you are right this new word we really don’t know behind a segmented.

Mardy Sitzer: I think the question you asked and answer is if I look at where we joined we tell you guys how to do and you can hire any one of us to do this —-. So answer for your question is as a business owner you need to know the difference between what can you share that is implemented and probably you may not get that business any way or that isn’t your client versus you share and hope better customer feel.

Ruben Quinones: First yourself getting out there you are establishing as a resource there is no way. As I get 100 views in you tube I am static I am not dancing cats I thought about marketing is —– 100people I didn’t know before so those are good numbers for me when I look at so I think about I am still feeling often I have done business out of my personal brand I gave out so. There is a dollar value to that upto figure it out but actually don’t know how much it is.

Dana Humphery: I would like to add to that being a resource to people will keep you mind on top and when they need you they will call you it is just like on top of mind whom you are looking to as a client.

Jaclyn Deans: Ok thank you very much everyone coming in and round of applause to our panelist it was awesome thank you and you all have in your packet upcoming —–which is free and please bring your valuations up front thank you so much are you getting oh that’s wonderful on my top show thank you.
