There it was on my monthly utility bill, “We are now on facebook!”. I can now join Con Edison on Facebook. Not sure how long they have been advertising it on their envelopes which are sent out monthly to their customers, but I first noticed it last month. And if you did notice it, perhaps you may have had some of the same thoughts as I did. Why check them out? Why are they are on Facebook? Its a utility company after all. Or perhaps, you simply would have told yourself, No way am I joining them on facebook!
By the way, this is not to single out Con Edision, as they are plenty of other brands leveraging their offline marketing efforts to advertise to connect with them, and or make their consumers aware that they are now on Facebook, however, very few provide anything more than that simple phrase “We are now on Facebook” or “Become a Fan”. Some brands don’t really need to do more than that to get fans, however, I would think that Con Ed, off the record, would admit that they are not exactly the sexiest brand out there. So what to do? Perhaps a call to action? After all what will compel me to check out Con Edison on Facebook? I share a few ideas in the video, but there are plenty more. What are some of your thoughts?
