Another benefit of being on Twitter
I’ve heard of the benefits of following companies that may give out some good information like @JetBlue tweeting about great prices on last minute fares, or @Loehmanns tweeting discounts on brand name handbags. I have even benefited in the past by perusing my tweets, like when I found out about the free coffee @Starbucks was giving out during the last national election.
Last Thursday I was able to land an even better deal. I was on my Tweetdeck monitoring tweets for @PathInteractive, when I happened to see a tweet from @NYCMayorsOffice, obviously the twitter profile for Mayor Bloomberg’s office which is a verified account. They tweeted that they were giving away two free tickets to the city hall ceremony following the New York Yankee’s parade. At a specified time you could follow the link and fill out the form, it was limited to 500 people. Knowing that there would be way too many people at the parade (not my cup of tea), I thought, why not try this opportunity. I followed the link and filled out the form. I quickly forgot about it as I had some work to attend to. Later on that evening, I received a call, and to my surprise, it was the mayor’s office letting me know about my winnings. There were to email me info and I had to pick up the tickets in the morning. I ended giving up the tickets to my father and brother. My father is a big fan and later told me that day that it was a special moment. Unfortunately, I had work, but was grateful of the experience my father had. And its another reason I use twitter!
