Bing experiences huge growth in August

Not exactly that big if you look at market share, but Bing did grow 22% in August.  Google still has a stranglehold on the search engine market, handling 64% of online searches, Microsoft is at 10.7%.  Yahoo who dropped over 4 percentage points in August, has a dwindling market share of 16% of online searches.  Although Bing is still a small player, their growth is standing out amongst the players.  All other engines experienced near flat growth over the same time period.  It is important to note that Bing invested $100 million for their marketing campaign, but perhaps there is something to their new sleek user experience.

Bing poised to take on Google

Microsoft may never admit it, and it maybe a long shot,  but Bing is gearing up for a fight with google.  The next two years are a crucial period for Bing, as the Yahoo search deal still needs to formalize and  pass antitrust scrutiny.   I personally don’t see anything in the next two years outside of this situation that would warrant any type of concern over at google.  Social networks you would say?  Perhaps twitter or facebook?  Although facebook has already deployed impression ads, and twitter has a search function for tweets, they still need to first show  profitability and justify how they would replace search, and I don’t see that happening in at least a few years.Reblog this post [with Zemanta]
